Brutal weather and a brutal bite for Group D on March 20
Group D of the Midwest Winter Carp league has experienced more winter weather conditions than Tom Skilling. Our March 20 session was no exception. Water temps in the low-40s and air temperatures to match greeted us for the 6:20 a.m. peg draw, but that's as good as the weather would get. Henryk Burza drew peg 1, Frank Rink got peg 2, Lukasz Bober was at 3, and Ernest Kolodziejczyk took 4.
By 9:00 a.m., horizontal rain with thunder and lightning moved into our Milwaukee swim. It did not end. We fished in cold rain, strong winds, and occasional sleet all day long as the temperature dropped to 35°. Needless to say, the bite was terrible, and, to add insult to injury, we drove through hail on our way home. Oh, well. It's a winter league, after all.
Final session standings were an afterthought after fighting a day-long and losing battle to stay warm and dry. Frank Rink took 5 points and the big fish pot (14-4) with four fish weighting 40=. Lukasz Bober was good for four points after capturing two carp totaling 20+ lbs. Henryk Burza picked up three points with his carp weighing 8+. Ernest Kolodziejczyk brought two fish to his net, but they didn't quite reach that eight pound qualifying mark.
The league now has one session remaining for each of the four groups. Best of luck to all! Let's hope for some nice weather.
