Busy Sunday for the group A
I left some very icy conditions in Rockford and hit treacherous roads to within 15 miles of Milwaukee. After that, things really improved. Only three of us made the peg draw time. Two hours of practice drawing and supplying my own hat for the draw got me a coveted #1 peg. Adam had also been practicing and picked #5 with Andy grabbing #2. Tracy arrived a bit later and selected #3 which left #4 for Mike. I then had to chase Andy down to regain my hat.
A quick check of water temperature confirmed the 44 degree reading that had been the case for the last 10 days. It didn't take long for the action to start, unless you were on peg #3. Fish were coming in "left and right" with participants running back and forth assisting others with the netting. Tracy kept filling any voids netting or weighing. Adam nailed a beautiful 28-1 which shot him up in the Midwest Contest standings. Andy and I were both wanting to score one big fish for the same reason.
The big fish winner looked to be a lock until Tracy heated up and pulled a fantastic 29-8. He even had to land it single handed since everyone else had fish on the line at the same time.
On a day that the group recorded 665 pounds of fish, points were awarded to Adam (5), Andy (4), Larry (3), Mike (2), and Tracy (1). You know it's been a great day when last place still records over 100 pounds!
Interesting catch for me was a fish just under the 8 pound minimum rule that was missing the last third of it's body. It was completely severed. I'm guessing Andy did it to pull ahead of me for the day!
