Session 3#B

2010/2011 > Raport

Round 3 GROUP B

Round three, Group B, Sunday January 9th 2011: The temperature in Chicago was 24 degrees at 4am as I got in my car and headed north for the 6am peg draw. I was the first to show at the Winter Carp League venue in Milwaukee, air temperature was a very cold 9 degrees and the nearby power plant was in full operation a good sign for this swim. There was a heavy fog over the 52 degree water which made it difficult to see the opposite bank which is about 100 feet across, the wind was negligible. Soon the sun would rise to a clear sky and a balmy temp of 25 degrees.

It was good to see the competitors arrive, Paul, Marcin and Tom, and Larry. We are becoming somewhat of a distended family; it’s a good group, right away the smiling, the joking and the laughing begins. The pegs are drawn and the cold seems to become less of a distraction as we set up for the 7am start.

Larry drew the unwanted peg 2 location yet scored the first fish of the day at 7:15 then soon after another and another, totaling 8 fish. Tomasz at peg 1 started his own private fishing derby at the now famous peg 1 location which had action all day long with 12 fish landed including a couple of double runs. The action at peg 5 didn’t start till about 10am but steadily increased in magnitude with Marcin catching multiple 20’s and the days big fish of 24lbs 7oz with a total of 13 fish landed. Peg three had a slow day and although Paul landed 2 fish, non were above the 8lb cutoff. I managed 6 with 4 recordable from peg 4.

Although everyone caught fish, the competition was clearly between two great anglers at pegs 1 and 5 which ended the day about one fish apart. Tom at peg 1scored 5 points with 97.5lbs and Marcin at peg 5 scored 4 points with 83.4lbs. Dan 3 points, Larry 2 point and Paul 1 point.
